There are four main types of visa to France depending on the purpose of your visit, you can choose from: Tourism/Private Visit, Professional Visit, Study or Training Visit, and Family Visit.

Tourism/Private Visit

This type of visa allows you to visit France for 3 months (maximum) without engaging in any professional activities during your stay. Depending on your nationality and country of residence, you will need to submit some required documents, however, since France is part of the EU (European Union), the following documents are mostly required for all nationalities (besides those who don’t need a visa to visit France):

  • Schengen Visa Application form.
  • Two recent photos with a white background.
  • Passport, valid for 9 months from the intended date of travel.
  • Proof of financial capability to travel, stay and return to your home country or country of residency.
  • Travel Medical Insurance.
  • Proof of employment.
  • Flight (two ways), tour, and hotel reservation.
  • And if invited, your invitation letter.

The Tourism/Private visit, also known as a short-stay visa, also covers medical care visa.

Incase you need to receive medical treatment in France, you will also need to apply for a short-stay visa, however, in addition to the general documents that you will need to apply for a short-stay visa, you will also need to provide some documents related to your medical condition, hospital acceptance of your condition, and the bills from the hospital that will be treating you in France, all these documents will be handled in a strict and respectful medical confidentiality by the French Immigration office.

Young traveler (working holiday)

Also known as “Vacancies Travail”, you can also visit France with a Long-stay visa as a Young traveler, this program allows you to visit France for more than 3 months, depending on you nationality and age with the right to work to support your stay in France.

There are certain conditions that you must meet in order to get this type of visa:

The main reason for your stay should be tourism and discovering French culture. There are currently 16 countries that signed an agreement with France supporting this program, if you are from one of the following countries you can try to apply for this type of visa:

  • Australia.
  • Argentina.
  • Brazil.
  • Canada (agreement on youth mobility).
  • Chile.
  • Colombia.
  • Ecuador.
  • South Korea.
  • Japan.
  • New Zealand.
  • Hong Kong.
  • Mexico.
  • Peru.
  • Russia.
  • Taiwan.
  • Uruguay.

You must meet the terms and conditions of the agreement, and you must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the time of your request submission, except if you are from Argentina, Australia, or Canada where the maximum age is 35 years.

Volunteering

There are three types of volunteering visas to France: civic service, association-based volunteer work, and European Voluntary Service (EVS).
